Gillian Tett is US managing editor and an assistant editor of the Financial Times.

She has a PhD in social anthropology from Cambridge University, based on research conducted in the former Soviet Union in the early 1990s. She speaks French, Russian, moderate Japanese and Persian.

During her nearly 20 years at the publication, she has served in a number of capacities including capital markets editor, deputy editor of the Lex column, Tokyo bureau chief, and a reporter in London.

She won Journalist of the Year (2009) and Business Journalist of the Year (2008), both from the British Press Awards. In 2007 she was awarded the Wincott prize, the premier British award for financial journalism, for her capital markets coverage.

She is the best-selling author of Fool’s Gold: How Unrestrained Greed Corrupted a Dream, Shattered Global Markets and Unleashed a Catastrophe and Saving The Sun: A Wall Street Gamble to Rescue Japan from its Trillion Dollar Meltdown, which won Financial Book of the Year at the inaugural Spear’s Book Awards in 2009.
