Facebook and Google: the new colonial powers

When an online service is free, you’re not the customer, you’re the product. Social media giants, Facebook and Google have created a digital equivalent of a Plantation Economy where the dominant corporations in search, social media and digital advertising limit the options of users simply by being essential due to their dominance, silencing online voices that threaten their models’ legitimacy under the guise of ‘fake news’.

They used to sell us cigarettes and Jimmy Saville, they’ve sold us bulimic models, they’re still selling fast food obesity, carbon emissions, fashionable clothes made by Asian children in sweatshops, PPI schemes, Donald Trump and everything in-between.
