Washington has turned into the thing that it freed itself from 241 years ago – a bloated and corrupt imperial power, desperate for taxes, constantly hunting down resources overseas…sustained by military might and control of the global monetary system. Arrogant beyond belief, oblivious to its own hypocrisy, and dismissive of the need to maintain the respect of other nations – the US government is a reflection of everything it was created to overthrow.
The Syrian conflict has never been about democracy, or human rights. It has always been about Assad’s relationship with Iran and Russia. In the first of this two-part series, we examine some of the media myths in relation to Syria, and the extent to which corporate media-state power continues to demonise the country’s president through the use of propaganda.
In the coming months we can expect to witness an increasing number of speeches and articles demonising Iran, along with a growing number of ‘serious incidents’, that will be used to justify reneging on the nuclear deal. The phoney war on Iran has entered a new phase. The Likud party led by Netanyahu, the Trump administration, supported by the Wahhabi backed princeling in Riyadh…have absolutely no interest in collaborative solutions in the Middle East. Their goal is regime change.
The people who cheered as offensive content was censored by internet providers should not be so quick to applaud. They may soon find the same tactic used against causes they love. A look back at examples over the past 10 years can help demonstrate why we all have cause for concern.
The challenge facing the US is to operate in a world where there is not one single power, but multiple poles of power and influence. If you were Russia, or China, or Iran, would you believe that the American administration has any interest whatsoever in international law? Would you trust the US? Or would you be looking over your shoulder wondering if you were next?
